Hauschka is performance name for Volker Bertelmann 

• Dusseldorf-based, born in Kreuztal Nordrheinwestfalen, Germany

• Recording artist for Fat Cat Records and Karoake Kalk

Current and upcoming:

• New Album "Foreign Landscapes" released on the 26th of october.

• Music composition, piano performance and acting performance: Marquis de O (Kleist), director Kevin Rittberger, Recklinghausener Festspiele, theatre premiere: June 2010 with theatrical run at Frankfurter Schauspielhaus following the festival.

• Premier of The Hauschka Ghost Piano, collaboration with film director Jeff Desom. Eindhoven's Plaza Futura Festival: January 2010 (Desom’s video for Hauschka’s composition, Morgenrot, won the Grand Prix at the International Music Video Festival Museek in St. Petersburg and best animation nominated at the  UK Music Video Awards)

• Recording new album at the Tiny Telephone studio of John Vanderslice with  Magik * Magik Orchestra, 2010 release on Fat Cat

Biography:

• Classical piano lessons at the public music school begun at age 9; composed first filmmusic for the German Crime Series „Ein Fall für Zwei“ at age 18

• Studied Medicine from 1988- 1990 and  Ökonomics from 1990 – 1992 and in 1994, study of Popmusic at the Kontaktstudiengang Popularmusik in Hamburg

•  Founded and curated the  annual Approximation Piano Festival in Dusseldorf in 2005, featuring an international program of renowned experimental artists and collaborations. Hauschka curates the program each year. http://www.approximation-festival.de.

• Acted in lead role in the short movie Bloksky directed by Jeff Desom,  won the Akira Kurosawa short film award.

• Composition of music for the short film Paige and Jane, Hayley Stahl director

• Composition, Bryum and Kappok, for the animation trilogy animators Overture

• Premier of the DanceWork Orange piece by Stephen Shrephire; music from the Hauschka album Substantial

• Film music for the German feature films Wortbrot by Estelle Klawitter and Höhere Gewalt by Lars Henning Jung / winner of the Max Ophüls Preis

• Remix and performance of Wagner’s Parcifal together with Stefan Schneider (To Roccoco Rot) at the Hebbel Theater Berlin as a part of the theater work  Wagners Hörschule directed by Sebastian Baumgarten, 2008

• Remix and performance of Schumann’s Cello Concert in A-Minor at the Schumann Festival in Düsseldorf

• Headlining tours in Europe and UK including shows at Union Chapel, London ,Ether Festival at Queen Elizabeth Hall London,  Barbican London
